Virat Kohli Scripts History in 300th ODI, Becomes First Player Ever to Achieve Unique Feat

Indian cricket superstar Virat Kohli has once again etched his name in the history books, becoming the first player in cricket to play 100 matches in all three formats—Tests, ODIs, and T20Is. This remarkable achievement came as Kohli stepped onto the field for his 300th One-Day International (ODI) against New Zealand in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

A Landmark Moment in Cricket

On March 2, 2025, Kohli joined an elite club of Indian cricketers who have played 300 ODIs, standing alongside legends like Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, Mohammad Azharuddin, and Yuvraj Singh. However, Kohli took this milestone a step further by achieving a feat no other cricketer has—playing at least 100 matches in each of the game’s three formats.

Kohli’s consistency and dominance across formats have set him apart as one of the greatest cricketers of all time. Before this historic match, he had already amassed 14,085 runs in 299 ODIs at an incredible average of 58.20, with a strike rate of 93.41. He also became the fastest player to reach 14,000 ODI runs, breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s long-standing record.

A Disappointing Outing in the 300th ODI

Despite the historic occasion, Kohli’s performance in his milestone match did not go as planned. The Indian captain was dismissed for just 11 runs off 14 balls after attempting a shot to the backward point. New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips stunned the crowd with an extraordinary one-handed diving catch, sending Kohli back to the pavilion in disbelief. The unexpected dismissal became one of the talking points of the match, as fans had high expectations from Kohli in such a significant game.

While his 300th match did not see him add much to his run tally, Kohli’s contribution to ODI cricket remains unparalleled. His ability to chase down targets, anchor innings, and score big hundreds under pressure has made him one of the most reliable batters in world cricket. His recent unbeaten century against Pakistan in the Champions Trophy further cemented his place as one of the greatest ODI batsmen ever.

What’s Next for Kohli?

As the Champions Trophy progresses, Kohli will be eager to bounce back from this rare failure and continue leading India with his characteristic determination. His hunger for runs and passion for the game remain undiminished, and fans can expect more record-breaking performances from him shortly.

Despite the setback in his 300th ODI, Virat Kohli’s name will forever be etched in cricket history as the first player to achieve the unique feat of playing 100 matches in each format. His journey is far from over, and the world will be watching as he continues to inspire future generations with his brilliance.
